A Weekend of Thrifting and Dancing

This weekend gave me lots of “post-worthy” moments, so why not give a little peek at my über glamorous life? (Please read that sentence with a generous amount of sarcasm.)  But all jokes aside, I feel so lucky to live in Southern California.

It’s given me the friends with souls warmer than the weather, concerts to dance at with the people I love, and the best thrift stores known to mankind. So who’s ready to hear about the past few days that encompassed all of those perks?!

Before leaving for Michigan this week to show my little sis around my, and coming this fall also her, college campus, I made myself pretty busy.  Let’s just say I took the phrase, “You have as many hours in a day as Beyoncé” seriously.

Saturday was filled with thrifting and a couple of my favorite hole-in-the-wall markets. Processed with VSCO with m5 presetProcessed with VSCO with m5 preset

I’m a sucker for some holographic sneakers and satin outfits that don’t require a brassiere.  If I may, I also need to go off on a tangent.  Why do so many people turn their noses up to thrift shopping?  I’ve been browsing through $3 jackets that smell like elderly people since my mom started taking me on her errands when I was little, and dammit, I still love it! You can’t say you like vintage gowns while pretending to gag at the thought of someone wearing a t-shirt before you did.  Someone had to say it.

Alright, rant over, you can open your eyes now.  Let’s talk about my Sunday Funday.  My sister from another mister Taylor brought me and my sister (from the same mister in case there was any confusion) to the 91x Fest with her and her fam bam.  My life has since never been the same.  The lineup included: Phoenix, Empire of the Sun, Sir Sly, Bob Moses, The Lemon Twigs, Skip Marley, Missió, Lo Moon, Lightning Cola, and Creature Canyon.  Processed with VSCO with m5 presetProcessed with VSCO with m5 presetProcessed with VSCO with m5 presetProcessed with VSCO with m5 presetProcessed with VSCO with m5 presetProcessed with VSCO with m5 presetProcessed with VSCO with m5 preset

Even the bands I didn’t know well, I would watch again in their own concert.  I can’t even begin to spaz out about Bob Moses.  I also don’t know who to yell at for not seeing Empire of the Sun with me earlier than now; it’s a tragedy.

Overall, this weekend reminded me that there’s a lot more in this life to be thankful for than we often consider.  God has blessed me with people I can unapologetically be myself with, and gifted me with a colorful world to explore with these angels in disguise.  It makes me realize how foolish I am on a daily basis to worry about petty concerns.  At the end of the day, “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength,” Phillippians 4:13.  Sometimes it just takes 48 hours of bliss to remind me of that.

xoxo,
